How should I prepare for my visit to Beauty Nurse Krissy?
We recommend arriving at your appointment without make-up on if possible. Avoid any blood thinning products (if physician approved). Common oral blood thinning medications include: Aspirin, Ibuprofen, fish oils, ginkgo biloba, etc. for 2 weeks (ideally) prior to your appointment.
We also recommend avoiding alcohol for a week prior to injections and no workouts the day of your appointment. Why? All of these variables increase your risk for bruising.
We also recommend using Arnica Montana sublingual tablets and topical cream before and after injections. We apply Arnica cream immediately post injections and have Boiron Arnica topical and oral products available for purchase at our salon.
What payment options are accepted?
Beauty Nurse Krissy accepts all major credit cards. BNK gift cards (in any amount) can also be purchased and redeemed for all BNK services.
After your visit to BNK
What is the recommended aftercare for dermal filler injections?
We recommend drinking lots of water and avoiding alcohol for at least 24 hours following treatment. Do not work out, use saunas, do hot yoga, or anything that increases circulation (blood flow) for the first 24 hours. Doing so can increase bruising, swelling and risk of infection.
Ice may be applied off and on for the first 24 hours after injections IF the ice is sanitized using a fresh ice pack and/or new clean plastic bag of ice cubes. Be gentle and do not press hard when applying ice. This may disrupt the filler placement.
Please avoid aspirin and ibuprofen for at least three days after injections. Both medications thin the blood and may increase bruising during the healing process. Make-up, coverup, lipstick, gloss and liner, etc. are prohibited for the first 24 hours after filler injections. The areas injected take around 24 hours for the microscopic holes to heal & close. Adding make-up coupled with dirty brushes and unclean hands may increase the risk of an infection, biofilm and late onset nodules. The filler is considered an implant and no bacteria should be introduced into the area while healing.
We recommend gently cleansing skin with calming products the evening after injections and again the next morning. Use gentle pressure on impacted areas and avoid at-home cleansing & electric devices and gua sha massaging for a few days after your dermal filler injections.
The application of topical Arnica cream/gel and sublingual tablets improves the healing process and reduces swelling and intensity/duration of bruising.
How long do hyaluronic dermal fillers last?
Depending on the filler injected, one’s metabolism, and level of physical activity, most hyaluronic acid fillers last around 6-8 months. There are some filler brands that claim up to a 2 year duration, but we find this is usually not the case.
The studies that were conducted for FDA approval oftentimes had unrealistic amounts of filler (syringes) injected. However, MRI’s have shown that trace amounts of filler may still be present at 2 years post injection, but are typically the result of the original treatment (nor do they have the same benefits as the initial procedure).
Product-specific questions
What are Botox/Dysport injections?
Botox/Dysport are prescription medications used to reduce facial lines and wrinkles. They smooth the skin by relaxing muscle movement and reducing muscle tension in the areas injected.
First, we perform a full facial assessment to determine the best treatment protocol for your face that includes improving your facial balancing, features and concerns. Botox and Dysport treat the cause of lines/wrinkles by reducing the repetitive muscular movements that are forming the lines in the skin.
Common areas for Botox/Dysport injections are around the eyes (crow’s feet), between the brows (11’s) and forehead. We also treat the muscular tension in the jaw, lift the corners of the mouth, create a “lip flip”, reduce dimpling on the chin, tighten jawline/neck and reduce neck bands.
The dosage and cost for these injections is determined by the area/muscle mass and strength of the muscular movement in each area. Results last between 3-4 months.
What are the recommended aftercares for Botox/Dysport injections?
We recommend keeping your head upright for 6 hours after injections. Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oils or anything that thins the blood due to the increase of bruising, for at least 3 days after injections. Tylenol does not thin the blood & is fine to take.
Please do not consume alcohol for a few days after injections. Avoid yoga, pilates & anything that moves your head in a lower position. Do not work out the same day (no running, spinning, etc). Walking is fine. You may apply makeup post injections.
When do I see results from Botox/Dysport injections?
It takes a few days after Botox/Dysport injections to begin to see results. Typically, you’ll notice a reduction in the strong muscular contractions 2-7 days post treatment. Keep in mind, it takes up to 2 weeks to see the results of the injections. This is why we conduct follow up assessments around 2-3 weeks afterward, if needed. Studies show that neuromodulator results peak at 4-6 weeks after injections and by 3 months, most patients need another treatment.
How long does Botox/Dysport last?
The benefits of neuromodulators typically last 3-4 months. After injections, it takes 2-7 days (but can take up to 2 weeks) to see the full results of the treatment. Studies suggest that injection results peak between 4-6 weeks. By twelve weeks after injections, most patients need their next treatment.
The benefits of the Botox/Dysport treatments may seem to last longer than 3-4 months, even if the patient does not have any neuromodulators actively working. There may be several reasons for this, but it is typically because the patient has re-trained their muscular movement in their upper face. For example, not frowning while looking at the computer all day long. If the patient has less dynamic movement of the muscles, the amount and duration of benefits may seem longer.
Are injections painful?
Injections may be uncomfortable. Everyone’s feeling is different and depends on their pain threshold. Botox/Dysport injections are mostly painless. You may feel a little pinch during the injection, but this immediately ends after the treatment is finished.
There is typically more discomfort with Dermal Filler Injections than neuromodulators. That said, most beauties do not need any topical anesthetic. Most brands used at Beauty Nurse Krissy have lidocaine included in the syringe. The lidocaine is an anesthetic that helps numb the areas injected.
Keep in mind that the lips and peri oral areas (around the mouth) are the most sensitive areas of the face (nerve endings overlap midline). Therefore, prior to lip injections, we apply a topical prescription anesthetic to significantly reduce pain sensations. We may also inject a mini dental block of 2% lidocaine to numb the area more thoroughly. This injected lidocaine usually takes 1-2 hours to fully dissolve.
What is Sculptra?
Sculptra is a collagen stimulator. Once injected, your face/body increases the amount of collagen production in that area.
As we age, our skin’s natural collagen decreases and causes wrinkles, sagging of the skin and loss of volume. Sculptra has a biocompatible substance containing poly-L lactic acid (PLLA) that acts as a “fertilizer” for the skin. The mixture improves the skin’s structural foundation, creating a more youthful appearance.
The results of Sculptra are not immediate, as it takes weeks or months for the collagen to regenerate in the tissue. We recommend several treatments, spaced 6-8 weeks apart to get full results.
