What I’d Actually Recommend In Mykonos (From Someone Who Just Got Back)

What I’d Actually Recommend In Mykonos (From Someone Who Just Got Back)

Mykonos is one of those places that almost doesn’t feel real.

The ocean.
The sunsets.
The winding little streets.
The energy.

But after spending time there, I realized the things that made the trip the BEST weren’t necessarily the things I expected.

Go Earlier In The Season If You Can

We went to Mykonos in mid-May which ended up being one of the best decisions.

The island felt calmer, less crowded, and much easier to enjoy than peak summer season.

The only downside?
The weather changes quickly this time of year and none of the pools are heated, so be prepared for colder water.

But honestly, the slower pace made the trip feel much more relaxing and intentional.

Stay Somewhere That Feels Peaceful

One thing I learned quickly:
where you stay completely changes your experience.

We stayed at Katikies Mykonos and absolutely loved the quiet, boutique feel. The slower mornings, outdoor living, private terrace, and incredible service made such a difference after long travel days.

One of my favorite parts of the trip was simply slowing down enough to enjoy where we were staying instead of constantly rushing to the next thing.

Don’t Overpack Your Itinerary

This might be my biggest recommendation.

Some of our favorite moments weren’t planned at all.

Walking through Mykonos town.
Watching sunsets.
Taking the local buses.
Relaxing by the water.
Lingering longer at dinner.

Travel feels completely different when you stop trying to optimize every second.

Transportation Can Be Tricky

Nobody really warns you about this.

Taxis are limited and private transportation gets expensive quickly.

One thing that helped us SO much was getting our taxi drivers’ WhatsApps early in the trip so we could arrange rides directly.

We also started using the public buses which honestly became one of my favorite travel hacks. It felt easier, more local, and less stressful than constantly waiting for transportation.

My Favorite Experiences

A few things I’d absolutely recommend:

• Scorpios for sunset
Beautiful atmosphere, amazing food, incredible sunset views. It becomes more club-like later at night, so earlier reservations are ideal if you prefer a calmer experience.

• Delos Island
One of the most meaningful experiences of the trip. We took a catamaran and toured the ancient ruins while learning Greek mythology and history. Truly unforgettable.

• 180 Sunset
Probably one of the most beautiful sunsets I’ve ever experienced. The entire atmosphere felt emotional and cinematic.

What Helped Me Feel Good While Traveling

International travel can be really hard on your body if you don’t support yourself intentionally.

A few things that helped me most:
✈️ skipping makeup on flights

✈️ compression socks

✈️ blue light blocking glasses

✈️ hydrating with electrolytes

✈️ simplifying my skincare

✈️ prioritizing sleep

✈️ slower mornings whenever possible

✈️ Get outside in new time zone ASAP.  Put your bare feet on the land to help your body adapt

✈️ Wake-up with the sunrise in the new location.  No glasses or sunglasses (or contacts) and as much bare skin as possible. This helps the body’s circadian clocks adapt and adjust to your new location. You will feel much better.

Travel is always more enjoyable when you focus on supporting your body instead of running yourself into exhaustion.

If you’re traveling this summer, my biggest advice is this:

Leave room to actually experience where you are 🤍
